My hubby is the one who suggested I capture our 3 year old in this way.

I'm glad I married him.

I had considered going crazy and making some yummy omelettes or homemade pancakes...but sadly, life just got in the way.
And besides, that's just not us.
This is us.
Real life.
Cheerios.
Milk.
And smiles.

Baby {Owen}- Calgary Newborn Photographer

Remember this sweet family?
Back in the fall they were happily expecting their second little boy....

And had decided to keep the name a secret....

A few short weeks after that session, they met their sweet little miracle and decided on Owen. And I think it fits him perfectly.

Here he is at just 5 days old. He was the most perfect little man- calm, peaceful and truly content. A pure joy. Thank again guys, for inviting me into your home and trusting me with your sweet little guy. He couldn't be more perfect!

Linked 52- Week Two

We have really been enjoying a mild winter this year. Normally we are covered in a thick blanket of snow and grumbling about the freezing cold temperatures. But not this year. It has been unseasonably warm, so much so that my boy has been playing street hockey (what?! isn't it January?!) and we've been wearing just sweaters outside. Crazy. We have really been delighting in the spring like weather especially because we knew it wouldn't last forever :)
And sure enough this week it snowed....

This is my Abby.
Almost 5 years old and definitely the craziest of the bunch :o)
I love her to pieces and these images just show how full of life she is.

We stepped outside yesterday for about 5 mins and I shot these of her.
One of my goals in the project is to document the joy that is my kids. I want to intentionally take out time each week and focus of capturing the beauty of our little life. I want to slow down. Embrace. Remember.

Linked 52- Week one

I am so excited to join up with a fun year long project called Linked 52. A photo a week for a year. Inspiration for documenting our little life.
A couple of years ago I tried doing the photo a day project and failed miserably. Most days I ended up running through the house at 10pm looking for something photo worthy. Ha!
In the business of raising these four little munchkins a photo a week (I think....I hope!) I can handle.
My lovely friend Stacey is participating too, and where I first heard of it. Her photography is amazing! So, every friday we will post our image and link to one another to see how everyone interpreted the theme. Fun, right? If you want to join, this weeks theme is "cold".

Now, because I'm a little crazy and can't begin a project on week two I decided to play catch up and go ahead and post an image from week one.
Last weeks theme was "newness"

Here's my baby.

Just last week she started all on her own. While part of me is so excited at this new skill (you should hear the five of us clap and cheer each time she pushes herself up all on her own) another part of me is so sad...my baby is growing waaaaaaaay too fast :( Before I know it she'll be running around this place with the rest of 'em.
Sigh.

Oh what a joy it has been to look back over this past year and see so many beautiful families. So many fun mornings and afternoons were spent together playing and laughing. I am truly thankful to each and every one of you for trusting me with your memories.

I am really looking forward to the new adventures that await in 2012.

Baby {Henry}

Remember this lovely lady and her sweet family?
Well, a few weeks ago I was able to go see them again and meet their newest little joy in all his cuteness.
At 15 days old he was a bit older than my typical newborn, since this little guy had to spend some extra time in the hospital. But now he's home, settled and just as perfect as can be!

Mr. Henry was such a content little man (despite mom and dad's report that he had been up all night ;)
He was very happy to stay awake and check out what was happening, and it took much time and patience and feeding(S) to get him to fall asleep, but when he did boy was it worth the wait!

Congrats again guys! Your boys are perfect and I know that they are so blessed to grow up in a family that loves them like you do!

I hope this picture makes Daddy happy. One of his friends actually MADE it (crazy-right?) for Henry's older brother. What fun!

These boys are so lucky to have a daddy who LOVES to play. I can just imagine the fun adventures they will have all together.

I really like this next one because it made me giggle a little. Poor tired daddy tryin' to sneak in a little nap after a long night of being up....while this wide eyed cutie pie looks around happy as can be ;)

Helping Hearts- {Ryan}

Back in the summer I was connected with the Graham family through the wonderful organization Helping Hearts. Unfortunately because of a surgery that was needed we had to wait to schedule our time together.
The surgery went really well and so a few weeks ago I had the privilege of meeting them in their home, to take a few pictures for them and get to know them a bit better.

Meet sweet Ryan. Ryan was born with RTS (Rubenstien Taybi Syndrome). He is as cute as can be... isn't his smile just magical?!
Ryan just had his third surgery the week after these were taken and Mom says he is doing awesome! Could you keep this family in your thoughts and prayers as he continues to recover?

Amy & Scott, it was such a pleasure meeting you all. Your family is absolutely perfect!

It is always such a treat to reconnect with old friends and be able to spend some time with their families. Jill and I know each other from high school. She is such a good mommy and her little family is absolutely precious.

Mr J. is definitely one of the coolest cowboys I've ever met and not only is sweet R the most easy going little gal, but is also absolutely stunning. I can barely handle her gorgeous eyes. Wow. These were not photoshopped people. All natural beauty!

Happy FIRST Anniversay!

These shots were taken last summer shortly after my little sis and her (now) hubby got engaged. It was so fun to pull them up again and remember back to the day we took them. There were about a zillion mosquitoes and the sky threatened rain the entire time... but they were so in love that they didn't even notice ;)

I met the Draders a couple of weeks ago and still can not get over how absolutely adorable their little man is. He was super generous with his hugs and even insisted that I come join them on the other side of the camera for some of the shots :D What a friendly little fellow!

{Jamieson} Family

A few weeks ago I had the absolute pleasure of taking some pictures for my cousin and her sweet, sweet family. My cousin and I go waaaaaay back. To barbie dolls, handwritten postcards, strolls to "Meats and Treats" (a little neighbourhood candy shop) and bike rides down in Fish Creek.

I really can't say enough about her little family. She married one of the sweetest guys I know. Their whole family is just real, cool and super down to earth. Their two little munchkins are my little munchkins best buddies and we are so blessed to have them in our lives. It is so special to me that we are able to raise our kids together and have them make some of the same memories that her and I have growing up. This winter they are expecting their third little joy and I can hardly wait to meet him and welcome him to our family!

We've know the McCaleb's for a few years now, since our boys started kindergarten in the same school....I can hardly believe they are in grade THREE now! Yikes! Where oh where does the time go?!
They are the sweetest family ever and I was so honored to be able to jump into their world for a little bit :)
Lucky for me these boys sure came ready to smile. Our time together was super duper easy and relaxed. I can hardly get over how sweet they are to one another. Seriously, I wish you could see how they love.
We took a few family pictures first and then had some fun playing cowboy :) Oh how I adore how they immediately got lost in their own little world just as soon as those hats went on!

I don't think there is anything better than a fresh from heaven babe. Ooooh, I just melt every time I am near one. Little Miss 'K' was no exception. Seeing her sweetness reeeeeeally made me want another one :o)

With two big sisters and a big brother, she is sure a lucky lady to be loved the way she is!
Isn't she the biggest (littlest) sweetheart?! Doesn't she have the most delicate features? Oh man, it took all my willpower to leave her at home and not try to sneak her off with me.

And although it was a bit of a challenge to get her to fall asleep (she was just happy to take it all in) in the end it was worth the wait. What a little joy.

When I married Chris I was welcomed into the most amazing family. Seriously- they are crazy awesome.
Not only are his parents oh so wonderful, but his brother is pretty cool too :)

Meet Doug and his sweetheart of a girlfriend Sylvia. I just love 'em. They are real and kind and totally fun to be around. They love our four kids and spoil them rotten! Plus, they brought me a peppermint hot chocolate on the chilly morning we took these pictures.
So they are officially my favorite people.

This past weekend I had the pleasure of meeting the lovely Stewart family. Their session was given to them as gift from Kathleen's siblings to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary. Isn't that awesome?

Have you ever met a family and felt like you were blessed just by meeting them? That's how I felt after spending the morning with these guys. You can just feel the love between them. They are so kind and loving towards one another. Their son N was such a great sport and truly made my job super duper easy. What a sweetheart!

A Night on the Tracks

It's always a special treat when I can take a few pictures of my own little people :)
This is my oldest. He's kind, sensitive, silly and growing into such a sweet young man. I can't believe he starts grade THREE tomorrow. Wasn't he born just yesterday!?!?

I have been wanting to take him out to the train tracks all summer and we finally made it happen last night. After picking out a few simple props we loaded up the car and drove off just the two of us. I love when I get the chance to spend some one on one time with my munchkins.
(I even decided to include a special treat to spoil him with....Ha! You should have seen his eyes when I brought out the Coke. Fun, fun!)

Last month our 3 year old was given her very first pair of glasses.

Every time I see her in them my heart smiles.

She is doing so well in them and hey, we've only lost them a handful of times ;)

"Love" Sessions- for your next date night!

The spoken word is so powerful. One of my favorite things to do with my husband is to reminisce together. Remember back to the days when we were dating. Recall the funny stories. Admit the attraction. Remind one another of the love we share.

I wanted to try out a session that would allow a couple to lose themselves in one another and where I could just be in the background capturing those live emotions. The real laughter. The soft looks. The loving embrace.

During the session I gave this couple sweet little prompts in an attempt to draw out that honest emotion. The results were magical.

I asked Chris & Lacey to write up their reaction to our session and here's what they wrote:

"Participating in the "love" photo session was honestly the perfect date night. With Sara's gentle prompts and questions, we were able to reminisce about our relationship and whisper affirmations to one another. While we were lost in our own little world, Sara was quietly capturing our interactions and expressions. In fact, my husband later told me he forgot the camera was even there! I felt like the session gave us the opportunity to step away from our busy lives and have some fun.
I can't remember the last time we took pictures of just the two of us. We are so busy capturing shots of our children, that it was nice to slow down and collect some pictures of just the two of us. It was a few quiet moments to remember...to reflect...and to enjoy the presence of the other. Even better, we walked away with beautiful photos that captured our relationship perfectly. Thank you Sara! It was such a sweet summer night and these are definitely going on the wall in our bedroom. "

Canaan {the cutie}

Introducing Canaan the Cutie (as my girls have named him!)
Last week I had the privilege of meeting him along with his sweet mom and dad and was honored to be able to take a few pictures for them through the organization Helping Hearts.

Canaan was diagnosed with Congenital AML (a form of Leukemia) when he was just a month old. His family has already been through so much, and yet all you can feel is JOY when you are around them. The love between them is so genuine. So tangible. So very, very beautiful.

Canaan is just such a sweetheart. He was so full of smiles (mom and dad warned me that he likes to keep them to himself and will stop smiling whenever a camera comes out) but we were able to catch a few! :)
He has got to be the cutest little guy I have ever seen. I mean seriously, it took much self control on my part not to just gobble him up and take him home with me!

Today he went back into the hospital to undergo his 3rd of 5 rounds of chemotherapy.
Please keep little Canaan and his sweet family in your thoughts and prayers.

Let me just start with how much I adore this family. Truly. They are the definition of LOVE. You can just feel it when you are around them. They are silly and playful and genuine and just plain rad. I went to high school with Christina and can honestly say that she is one of the most beautiful people I know. Her husband and kids are amazing and I am so honored to know their little family.

We started off the morning with just the 5 of them and then shortly after Bubba and Papa showed up for a few shots too. So special. So fun!

Cowgirl Beauty

Helping Hearts

One of the biggest reasons why I take pictures is because I know just how valuable they are. Whether I am shooting my kids jumping in rain puddles, or capturing moments for my clients I know them all as treasures. I know because when I was 10 years old I lost my mom to cancer. Every single picture I have of her is a beautiful, precious treasures. Pictures allow us to slow down and freeze time for a moment. They allow us to hold on. Remember. Treasure.

When I heard about the organization Helping Hearts I knew right away that I wanted to be a part of it. My heart just melted as I learned that this group of professional photographers gift their time and talents to families dealing with heart wrenching circumstances. They capture the sweetest of moments for families who are dealing with illness or disabilities in their children.

When I think about my own four precious littles I can hardly imagine what these families walk through on a daily bases.
I am so very humbled and honored to be accepted as one of the photographers in this beautiful community.

This past weekend I had the wonderful privilege of taking a few pictures for this adorable family. These guys were so special to me as they reminded me so much of my little family. Their four little cuties are almost exactly the same ages as my four (we even named our babies the same name!)

We talked about Tangled and Yogi Bear. We played with Buzz and shared lots of giggles.
And I have to say I have never had such good helpers when it came to taking pictures of their new baby sister. Miss "E" and Mr "J", I really couldn't have done it without your help ;)

I am so excited to introduce our littlest munchkin Elliot Joy.
Ellie was born on Friday Feb.11th weighing in at 7lbs 10 oz. making her our biggest babe yet! She is the perfect little love and has brought our family so much joy already.
Here she is just 6 days young and perfect as can be.

Recently I had the privilege of takings pictures for Justin and Alina's lovely evening ceremony. It was a beautiful and intimate wedding with just a few close friends and family. They even managed to get a live web stream going to the Ukraine so that Alina's family could be there too! Isn't that sweet?!

Snow Shots

Our city has been covered in a thick blanket of snow and hit with icy cold temperatures for what seems like forever.... good for getting into the Christmas Spirit, not so good for getting outside and taking pictures :)
Thankfully, though, we live in a city where one day it can be -30C and the next +5C!

Taking advantage of our lovely warm weather, the other day, the kids and I went out and did a quick little photo shoot in our backyard.

I only have 2 session times left for the month of December, so if you were thinking of getting some great snow shots for your Christmas cards book soon! As soon as I fill them I won't be taking any more bookings until the new year :D

Oh, how I love this family!
We've had the pleasure of knowing the Burkes since before we were both pregnant with our first babies. They are some of the most amazing people we know. Genuine. Fun. Real. It has been so awesome to travel down this crazy world of parenting with them :D

I had such a wonderful time capturing these shots. It was so difficult to pick which ones to put on here. Aren't their little ones just gorgeous?

Well, it seems as though our gorgeous fall weather was a little short lived.
We have already enjoyed our first snow fall of the year and cooler temperatures have definitely set in.
Meet the sweet Benson family, who were game for braving the cold with me this past weekend. And cold it sure was {brrrrrrr!}

Thanks guys for such a fun morning. You little ones are just beautiful and it was such a delight taking a few shots for you.... hope you were able to stop and get a warm drink from Starbucks on the way home :-)

Introducing the Law family. I met Lacey (who by the way is the coolest girl ever!) through our blogs last year and we soon discovered that our husbands actually went to school together. Crazy small world!

Although both girls were fast asleep when we first met up to take these shots, it didn't take long to wake them and get some big smiles from them. Miss A is such a little joy, full of bubbly energy and Miss K, well, I just about took her home with me. I could not get enough of her cuteness :)

Recently I had the awesome privilege of taking pictures for this sweet family.
It was hard picking my favorites to post here. Their boys were so well behaved and certainly had no problem smiling for the camera. Plus, they had a great time looking for 'Buzz Lightyear' in the lense and showing me their BIG muscles and superhero moves.

Introducing the N family. I had SO much fun with them today and could not get enough of their sweet boys. Their oldest was very helpful and even took a few shots of his own while his baby brother enjoyed a little snack. What a cutie :)

Last weekend we spent some time down in Fish Creek Park.

We enjoyed a nice family walk and took a few pictures of the kids.
This shot is the last one I took.

It was really hot out and waaaaaaaay past nap time
but when I saw this old yellow building I saw potential.

I think it captures the moment perfectly!
